Futuristic Frustrations
There are times where I wonder if things will actually happen, if there's actually going to be a change in the world. Some days I think that there will never be this great solution and other days I feel like change is coming. It’s like teetering between hope and hopelessness, where one minute you’re inspired by people making a difference, and the next you’re overwhelmed by the sheer size of the problems we face.
I feel this way a lot when I think about sustainability, especially in fashion. You see so many headlines about climate change, pollution, exploitation of workers and it feels impossible to fix. And yet, you also see brands shifting their practices, activists raising awareness, and everyday people making more thoughtful choices. It's slow, messy, and far from perfect, but it's happening.
Maybe change doesn’t come all at once. Maybe it’s little shifts, one decision at a time. Like choosing to repair a jacket instead of tossing it. Or donating clothes so they can have a second life. Or supporting small, ethical brands over massive fast-fashion corporations. Alone, these things might feel small. But when we all start making those choices, the ripple effects grow bigger than we realize.
The truth is, change is rarely loud and instant. It’s quiet and steady. And it happens in the in-between moments when we decide not to give up even when it feels easier to stay discouraged.
So on the days when it feels like nothing’s getting better, remind yourself that progress doesn’t always look like a grand revolution. Sometimes it looks like ordinary people, choosing to care anyway.
