A Missed Opportunity?
You ever walk away from something and immediately think, “Wow… that could’ve been different”? Maybe it’s a conversation, a job, an outfit, a post you deleted last minute—whatever it is, it just keeps lingering in your head. That’s the thing about missed opportunities. They have a way of sitting with you longer than the ones you actually take.
In the world of fashion and sustainability, missed opportunities happen all the time. Big brands launch “eco-friendly” campaigns that fall flat because they don’t actually change their production habits. Influencers promote thrift hauls but ignore the impact of over-thrifting in communities that rely on those secondhand stores. And as consumers, we miss opportunities, too—opportunities to learn, to ask questions, to make better choices when we know better.
Sometimes we’re just not in the right mindset. We might see a post about fast fashion’s impact on the environment and think, “Yeah, that sucks,” then move on and place a Shein order ten minutes later. Not because we don’t care, but because it’s hard to always make the right choice when it feels like everything is moving so fast and we’re constantly being told we need more, more, more.
But here's the good news: missed opportunities can still lead to growth. If anything, they’re a wake-up call. That shirt we bought on impulse might teach us to pause next time. That order we didn’t fully research might push us to support a more transparent brand next time. Progress isn’t always perfect—and that’s okay.
So whether it’s a missed chance to support a small designer, a skipped opportunity to mend instead of replace, or even a blog post you almost didn’t write (hey lol), the point is we’re still here. Still learning. Still doing what we can. And as long as we keep showing up, we can turn those missed moments into meaningful changes.
